Pistons tap Ilitch to buy team; Talks continue

The rumors have swirled around the city of Detroit for months, even years. Could the Detroit Pistons be bought out? Will they be bought out by an out-of-state buyer who will relocate the team? Or will a hero come from Detroit to keep the Bad Boys in the D?

That hero may well be Mike Ilitch, known currently as owner of Little Caesar's Pizza chain, along with the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. Now, there is a very good chance that Ilitch could soon be the owner of three out of the big four Detroit sports franchises.

Current Pistons owner Karen Davidson had been in talks with Ilitch earlier in the year to purchase the team left to her by her late husband, Bill.

The deal is not only the Pistons, but the entire Palace Sports and Entertainment empire, which includes The Palace Of Auburn Hills, DTE Energy Music Theatre and Medowbrook Music Theatre.

Now the question is if the team will relocate from the suburb of Auburn Hills to downtown Detroit, alongside possible future sibling teams, Tigers and Red Wings.
