Check out Hartland Patch’s Twitter and Facebook pages

HARTLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — This week, I launched the Twitter and Facebook pages for Hartland Patch. The intent is to provide a flavor of what we'll be doing when we launch the main page and to begin to create local buzz and a following.

Tell me what you think from an online journalism perspective and you'll receive extra credit points. Feel free to criticize or compliment the look, content or who is followed/"liked."

  1. I like the pictures that decorate the edges of this webpage. The pictures of Hartland help to give the site a local feeling and help people relate to a news gathering approach that might be rather new and foreign to them.
My only critique concerns the explanation of the content located on the blog. If I were looking at a site like this about my hometown, I would be a little lost as to the purpose of the page. I know you explained the purpose briefly, but maybe you could explain it more in depth so that constituents know that they can rely on the site for all news updates in their area.

  2. Good point, Beth. Twitter, being Twitter though, I only have a scant few characters for the bio. Originally, I had more on mission, but then I wanted to be clear about the journalistic intent in following others. I may change it back because people who use Twitter generally realize it. Thanks for your comment — you're tied with Corey. (+1)

  3. This is an awesome idea, seeing as though these two networking sites are indeed the most influential at the moment. The thing I love about Twitter is that it makes you feel closer to the people that you "follow", whether it be friends from a distance of celebrities. It's also easy to aggregate news with networking sites with so many new applications that automatically post your updates to your site, sort of how you have the Facebook linked to your twitter so that every time you update the site, your followers on Twitter are notified. Awesome logo, btw!
